How to start a casino affiliate website: a step-by-step guide

From choosing a market to the first commission: how a casino affiliate website works, which pages it needs, how to pick affiliate programs and how to get traffic without breaking the rules.

A casino affiliate website earns a commission when a visitor it sends signs up and plays at a casino. The business is simple to describe and hard to do well: you compete for search traffic with sites that have years of reviews and links behind them. This guide walks through the steps in the order they matter, from the market you pick to the way you track every click.

How casino affiliates earn

Casinos run affiliate programs, usually through an affiliate platform. You get a tracking link, send players through it, and earn one of three ways:

  • Revenue share: a percentage of the net revenue the casino makes from your players, paid every month for as long as they play. Rates commonly start around 25% and grow with volume.
  • CPA: a fixed payment for each new player who deposits a minimum amount. Faster money, but nothing after the first payment.
  • Hybrid: a smaller CPA plus a smaller revenue share.

New sites often start with revenue share, because it builds income that keeps coming from players you sent months ago. Read the terms before you join: some programs have negative carryover, where a player’s big win this month reduces your future earnings.

Step 1. Choose a market

“Online casinos” is not a market. A market is a country (or a language) and a type of player. The country decides almost everything else: which casinos are allowed to accept players there, which affiliate programs pay for that traffic, how hard the search results are and which rules you have to follow.

A narrower start is easier: one country, one language, one angle such as fast payouts, crypto casinos or no-deposit bonuses. You can always widen the site later.

Step 2. Check the rules

Gambling advertising is regulated in many countries, and affiliates are part of it. Before you build anything, find out:

  • whether online casinos are legal in the country you target and which licenses are recognised;
  • what the regulator says about advertising: age warnings, bonus wording, who you may target;
  • what the affiliate programs require from your site in their terms.

This is not legal advice; for a serious project, ask a lawyer who works with gambling clients. What almost every market expects is the same: an 18+ notice, a responsible gambling page with links to help services, honest bonus terms and no content aimed at minors.

Step 3. Join affiliate programs

Pick programs of casinos that accept players from your market and that you would actually recommend. When you compare programs, look at:

  • the commission model and the rate for new affiliates;
  • the countries they pay for (traffic from other countries often earns nothing);
  • negative carryover, minimum payout and payment methods;
  • the reputation of the program among affiliates: late payments and closed accounts are discussed on affiliate forums.

Step 4. Plan the structure of the site

Casino review sites that rank share the same structure, because it matches how players decide:

  • a casino rating, the main page that earns;
  • one review page per casino with scores, pros and cons, payments and license;
  • bonus pages with the amount, wagering and expiry;
  • comparison pages, casino against casino;
  • guides that answer questions and link to the rating;
  • author pages, so readers and search engines see who stands behind the reviews;
  • responsible gambling, privacy and terms pages.

Player complaints are an optional but strong addition: they show that you follow how casinos treat players after the sign-up. Each of these pages is shown with examples in our casino review website template.

Step 5. Choose the platform

Most casino affiliate sites run on WordPress: it is easy to publish with, SEO plugins are mature and you own the site. What you need on top of WordPress is a casino data model: casinos, bonuses and their fields, plus the blocks that turn them into ratings and comparisons.

You can build that with a general theme and a set of plugins, have it developed, or use a theme made for casino reviews. A specialised theme is the fastest way to a complete site; check that it does not depend on a page builder, which tends to slow the site down.

Step 6. Write reviews that rank and convert

A review that ranks is a review that shows real testing. Register at the casino, make a deposit, play, request a withdrawal and write down what happened: how long the payout took, which documents were asked, how support answered. Then add what every review needs:

  • scores by clear criteria, and a page that explains how you score;
  • pros and cons that a player can check;
  • the bonus terms in plain words: wagering, maximum bet, expiry, excluded games;
  • payment methods and payout speed;
  • the license and who operates the casino.

Show who wrote the review and who checked it, and keep the date of the last check. Casino terms change often, and an outdated review costs you both rankings and trust.

Step 7. Set up affiliate links and tracking

Do not paste raw affiliate links into your pages. Send them through short links of your own site, such as /go/casino-name/. You can change the target in one place when a program changes its links, and you can count clicks.

Count clicks by casino and by placement. A “Visit casino” button in the rating and the same button at the end of a review earn very differently, and you only find out by measuring. Compare clicks with the sign-ups the program reports, and move your best casinos to the placements that convert.

Step 8. Get traffic

Search is the main source of traffic for casino affiliates, and it is slow: expect months, not weeks. Start with keywords where the competition is weaker: long, specific searches like a casino name plus “review” or “withdrawal time”, bonus searches and questions. Each guide should link to the rating and to the reviews it mentions.

Links from other sites are what moves a casino site up in search. Earn them with content that others want to cite: payout tests, data from your complaints, clear guides. Avoid buying links in bulk; it is one of the fastest ways to lose rankings.

Step 9. Stay compliant and keep trust

  • Show an 18+ notice and a responsible gambling page with links to help services.
  • Ask for cookie consent before analytics run, if your visitors are in the EU or the UK.
  • Mark affiliate links and say how you earn money.
  • Never promise winnings and never present bonuses without their terms.

Trust is also a ranking factor in this niche. Sites that look like an honest guide to players do better over time than sites that look like a wall of “Play now” buttons.
